Union Cabinet Clears India-Bangladesh Coastal Shipping Agreement

The Union Cabinet also approved agreement on coastal shipping between India and Bangladesh to carry out movement of goods between the two countries. Ravi Shankar Prasad said it will significantly bring down freight charges.
He said Cabinet also approved signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Bangladesh on prevention of human trafficking, especially of women and children, and speeding up prosecution.
In another decision, government has decided to set up a committee headed by Prime Minister to commemorate Dr. B R Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary.
Cabinet also gave its nod for reclassification and upgradation of some cities for granting House Rent and Transport Allowance to central government employees. Prasad said under this, 21 cities have been upgraded from Z to Y categories.
