Union Govt. Appoints Mary Kom Brand Ambassador For North East

The Union Government has selected five-time world boxing champion Mary Kom as Brand Ambassador for the North East. Minister of Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh said this at a two-day business summit in New Delhi.

Addressing the representatives’ form the northeast and its neighbouring countries, Singh said after long deliberations, the name of Mary Kom has been selected for the promotion of culture and tourism. The formal announcement will take place in the next few days.

Highlighting the need to improve the connectivity in the region, the Minister said that connectivity has been playing a major role to boost the development in the region and therefore, it is the top priority of NDA government to improve it.

Singh also informed that Centre is also going to organise four-day mega North East festival to encourage the investors to invest in the region.

He also said that in the next few days the government will start the second phase of auctioning of FM channel in the North east. The Centre has proposed two FM Channels for Assam and one each for Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura.
