Veteran Journalist Ved Bhasin Passes Away In Jammu

Veteran journalist and an iconic figure Ved Bhasin, Chairman Kashmir Times Group of publications passed away after a prolonged illness at his residence here.

A towering personality in the field of journalism in Jammu and Kashmir and a well-known journalist around the globe Bhasin was on life support system for the past few days.

He was 86. He breathed his last late last night. Bhasin was born on May 1, 1929 and was a Post-graduate in Political Science.

He started his career in journalism as Editor Naya Samaj (Urdu Weekly) 1952-54 which was banned in 1954.

He was the Founder Editor of Kashmir Times from 1955, Editor Daily Sandesh 1 948-58, Editor Kashmir Post Srinagar from 1958-63, Editor-in-Chief Daily Kashmir Times 1964-2000 and Dainik Kashmir Times (Hindi) from 1989 to 2000 and Chairman Kashmir Times group of publications since 2000.

He also worked as UNI Correspondent for Jammu and Kashmir from 1963 to 1969 and contributed to various journals and newspapers on Kashmir, India-Pakistan problems and other conflict areas and media.

Bhasin taught journalism in Jammu University and also served as UNI Bureau Chief in J&K from 1963-69.

The news of his death was widely mourned by the people from all walks of life who termed his death as a big loss to journalism in J&K.
