WHO World No Tobacco Day Award-2015 For Punjab

Punjab today got global recognition in its campaign against tobacco as World Health Organisation (WHO) today selected the state for global reward to be conferred to the state on World No Tobacco Day 2015.

In one of its own kind of recognition received by any state of the country, the WHO lauded the efforts of Punjab for taking various measures to curb the usage of tobacco in any form and launching a sustained campaign to educate the masses besides taking punitive measures to punish the offenders.

The award would be conferred to the State Tobacco Control Cell in a specially organised function in New Delhi on May 29, said Punjab Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani.

The Minister said it was a befitting honour for state blessed by 10th Guru Gobind Singh, who took the lead to educate the masses regarding ill-effects of tobacco in the 16th century.
