World Bank Team To Review Sodic Land Reclamation Project In UP

A ten-member team from World Bank will review progress in Sodic land reclamation project and assess the impact of the project in improving livelihood of the beneficiary families through the Women Self Help Group in Uttar Pradesh.

The World bank team, which reached here today, would visit the different sodic project districts including Sultanpur, Lucknow, Rebareli, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etah, Mainpuri, Etawah, Kanpur and Unnao from tomorrow.

The mission will review the land reclamation project done in select villages as well as first cropping done in the selected area. The members will also meet Women Self Help Group who are earning their livelihood through goat rearing, sweet box making, paper bowl and plate making, cattle rearing and vegetable production, a government official said in a statement issued.

Around 2,49,244 farmers were benefited under the project. Among the beneficiary 93 per cent are small and marginal farmers while the rest belong to the Scheduled caste and tribe category.

Apart from the sodic land reclamation, the project is also working for ravine stabilization in Kanpur and Fatehpur districts under which 8679 hectare of ravine land has been stabilized against the target of 5000 hectare of ravine land. A total of 12947 farmers were benefited under this project, the official said.

He said the project provides seed and fertilizers to the beneficiary farmers for crop production. Women Self Help Groups are formed where they are given training of small sale industries to uplift their economic and social status.

For the first time the farmers are made available the inputs and marketing facilities to organize their own producer groups and provide them easy market for sale and purchase of farm produce, he said.

The World Bank team is led by Bayer Saihan Tumardava while the co-task team leader is Ranjan Samantaray.
