16th World Sanskrit Conference Begins In Bangkok

The 16th World Sanskrit Conference has begun at Bangkok in Thailand. Over 600 scholars from 60 countries are participating in the conference. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is the guest of honour during the inaugural ceremony of the conference.

She delivered her speech in Sanskrit. She reached Bangkok Sunday to participate in the conference. Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani will attend its concluding ceremony on July 2nd.

Mrs Swaraj will also co-chair India-Thailand joint commission meeting during which the countries will sign a double taxation avoidance treaty and exchange instruments of ratification on the extradition treaty signed between them in 2013.

During the visit, Ms Swaraj will also meet Indian business leaders and hold interaction with academicians. She will call on the Thai political leadership tomorrow.

Coinciding with the Conference, Doordarshan is launching a weekly news programme in Sanskrit in India.
