Gujarats First IAS Officer Vasant Mehta Dies At 102

Gujarats first IAS officer Vasant Mehta died here today at the ripe old age of 102 years.
Born on June 22, 1914 in Rajkot, . Mehta served as an IAS officer from 1952 to 1972. He served as the vice-chancellor of Ayurvedic University, Jamnagar from 1985 for six years.
Mehta did his high school from the Alfred High School, Rajkot, which was also Mahatma Gandhis alma mater. He did his graduation in science from Gujarat College, Ahmedabad and graduation in law from the Law College.
He worked with the Rohit Mill, a private textiles mills from 1945 to 1972 and as a recruitment officer for the State Bank of India between 1976 and 1985.
After his retirement in 1972, he was appointed as the vice-chancellor of the Dantiwada Agriculture University.
