Delhi Assembly Passes Value Added Tax Amendment Bill 2015
30 June, New Delhi
Delhi Assembly has passed Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill 2015.
The bill makes enabling provisions for levy of VAT in respect of certain goods like liquor, tobacco, aerated drinks and some other items at flexible rates instead of a flat slab of 20 per cent.
From now on rates on such items will be higher than 12.5 per cent but not more than 30 per cent.
The Bill was passed even as the assembly witnessed high drama after Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta tore off the amendment papers and BJP MLAs staged a walkout from the house.
