NCW To Be Restructured With More Power : Maneka Gandhi

Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has said that her Ministry is making all out efforts to empower women, save girl child and providing nutrition to mal-nourished.
In an exclusive interview to All India Radio, Ms Gandhi said, the government will be restructuring soon the National Commission for Women to equip it with more powers so that it can deal with problem afflicting the women.
When asked about the progress on Nirbhaya Fund, Ms Gandhi said, crisis centres will be set up across the country to help women in distress and first such centre will be opened in Raipur within a week.
On Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, she said, the initiative is showing good results and will definitely help in dealing with the skewed child sex ratio.
On any proposed changes in the Anti Dowry law, the Minister said, at present there is no such proposal under consideration. When asked about steps for empowering women, Ms Gandhi said, the percentage of women in police forces in the Union Territories is being increased. She said, her Ministry will urge the states too to enhance women representation in the police forces.
