PM Modi Meets Sonia, Manmohan For Tea To End GST Deadlock
27 November, New Delhi
In a move to reach out to the main opposition for the passage of key legislations in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at his residence in New Delhi this evening.
During nearly an hour long meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu were also present.
The two Congress leaders met Prime Minister over tea to discuss the issues related to important bills and working together for smooth functioning of Parliament.
The meeting was significant as the government and the Congress are at loggerheads on the passage of crucial legislations like the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill. Congress had stalled passage of the GST Bill in the last session objecting to some provisions of the bill.
