PM Modi Rules Out Any Review Of Constitution

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday ruled out any review of the Constitution. Winding up a two day discussion on Commitment to India’s Constitution as part of the 125th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Dr B R Ambedkar in the Lok Sabha Friday evening,

Modi said that no one can think of review of Constitution. He said, the Constitution is a holy book and the country can only be governed by it.

The Prime Minister said, the Government has only one religion which is India First and the Indian Constitution is about dignity for Indians and unity for India. Modi also stressed the need for working more through consensus than majority and minority in a democracy.

He said, consensus is more important than majority rule and having majority in the House does not mean one should impose their views. Modi said, nobody can undermine the contribution of previous governments in the development of the nation. He also said, nobody can ever deny Dr. B R Ambedkar’s contribution in framing the Constitution.

He said, Dr Ambedkar faced so much bitterness during his life but it did not reflect in the Constitution of which he was the main architect. Modi said, the importance and sanctity of the Constitution should be propagated among the people to strengthen democracy.

Spelling out his government’s priorities about upliftment of vulnerable and poor sections of the society, Modi said, the government will soon bring a bill to enhance the ceiling of bonus from 3500 to 7000 rupees to the labourers.

The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan saying her address will always be remembered.

The two day special sitting began yesterday in the Lok Sabha. In the Rajya Sabha it began today as the House was adjourned Thursday following the death of a sitting member.
