Puducherry Police Starts Recruitment Drive For 33 % Reservation For Women in Police Force
15 May, Puducherry
Puducherry Police has initiated steps to implement Union Government’s decision to provide 33 percent reservation for women in Police, in letter and spirit. At a time when atrocities against women are on the rise, increased presence of women in uniform is expected to instill confidence among women.
On the directive of the Union Government to provide 33 percent reservation for women in Police Forces of Union Territories, Puducherry Police is holding special recruitment drive for women. First batch of 100 women constables will join the Force shortly.
Idea is to make the Police gender sensitive. Inspector General of Police, Praveer Ranjan has a clear vision of the task at hand.
Ranjan said that they have started the recruitment process of women in Puducherry Police. He said that soon they will recruit 100 odd women police constables which will improve the overall strength of women in the police.
He feels this initiative will bring more sensitivity towards women issues in the Police force. He hopes that general profile of Puducherry Police will change for good with recruitment of more women.
